So much preparation goes into the wedding, that the marriage afterward can take a backseat. One of the things that couples who still love each other after they’ve been married a long time express is that they still celebrate each other and look for ways to express their love. Celebrating anniversaries is part of the joy. Whether you’re celebrating the anniversary of your first date, the engagement anniversary, or the day you were married, there are plenty of ways to do it. You don’t need to spend a lot of money, but putting a little thought into celebrating your anniversary can go a long way.
Trip Down Memory Lane
What if you could recreate your first date? Or the night you got engaged? Spend some time reminiscing about these milestones in your relationship. Go to the same restaurant where you first ate dinner together. Take a stroll through the place you first met. You can even take a photo at the spot to commemorate the big day.
If the two of you met at a bar or restaurant, maybe it’s time to return there for your anniversary. If that place is no longer around, plan a trip to the same area so you can check out what’s new. Another option would be to treat yourselves to a weekend in another part of town or state and spend some time finding new restaurants and bars.
Start a New Tradition
While reminiscing about the old can be fun, so can doing something new. Take a class to learn something new together. Start a new hobby, go to a new place, or take a new trip. Maybe you plan to see all the national parks over the course of a lifetime, so you plan them on your anniversaries. Perhaps you want to visit all 50 states, so you plan a road trip to see several you’ve never been to. Doing new things helps you to form new memories together, enjoy laughter, and celebrate the love you have for each other.
Create Something Together
When you create something special and share it with each other, it’s a great way to remember your love. Create a scrapbook of your relationship. If you’re feeling ambitious and have the time, create an entire scrapbook filled with photos and keepsakes from your relationship. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want. Write a love letter for each other or rewrite your vows. Write letters that express how much you appreciate each other in words that can’t be spoken out loud but still need to be heard. Go to a painting studio and paint pictures together. Creating something new, especially something that can be displayed at home is a great way to celebrate your anniversary.
Plan a Getaway
Planning a getaway can be stressful, but also a lot of fun. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a “romantic” getaway, but simply a getaway to somewhere you both want to visit. Whether it’s a luxurious hotel in your area or a glamping trip in the forest, getting away with your spouse is the most important part. Plan to get all dolled up and use a good skincare regimen leading up to the trip. You can also include a hormonal acne supplement product in your daily routine to ensure your skin looks and feels amazing. Getting away and looking and feeling your best can make for a great trip.
Escape Room
If you like puzzles and trying to figure things out, an escape room is a fun way to spend an anniversary. It’s a great team-building exercise, helping you learn about each other. It’s also fun to try and get through the challenges in time. You can set a fun goal and even bring along another couple to make it a fun double-date night.
Make it All About Them
Once you’ve been married for a while, some of the surprises go away. Celebrating each other for your anniversary means doing little things just for them. Order their favorite candy, find a bouquet of their favorite flowers, or look for sports memorabilia for their favorite team. You can give tickets to a game or concert. The important thing is to make it about the other person. If you both celebrate the person you love most, you’ll both experience each other’s love.
