Doing your own hairstyle on a wedding might sound like an impossible mission. We usually choose a hairstylist to do their magic, but what if you had the superpower of doing it on our own? You can teach yourself simple and beautiful hairdos without worrying about messing it up.

Let’s take a look at some DIY elopement hairstyles that you can pull off.

Be Patient

If you are a newbie, know that it takes time to master one hairstyle. Get in the right headspace, make your favorite smoothie, and sit in a calm environment. Start off with simple hairstyles and once you get a hang of it, level up! There are plenty of YouTube videos as well to get you started.  Practice makes perfect, so don’t be discouraged if it takes a few tries to get it right. While you’re experimenting with hairstyles, it’s also a great time to explore essential skincare tips for beginners to keep your skin glowing and healthy. A fresh face and a sleek hairstyle together can do wonders for your confidence!

Once you’ve decided on which style you’ll wear on the big day- practice. Practice doing it 2-3 times so that you know you can make it happen. You can even enlist a friend or family member to help so you can still feel pampered.

You Need Some Tools

To make the whole process easier, you need some basic tools.

  • Curling wands: The wider a curling wand, the looser your curls. If you want tighter ringlets, get a 19mm wand. For bigger waves, you can get up to a 32mm wand. Curling before an updo will add texture and volume so your style doesn’t look like it’s plastered to your head.
  • Blow dryer with a concentrator nozzle: a concentrator nozzle directs airflow in the direction you want, which makes blow-drying quicker and easier.
  • Straightening iron: straighteners have come a long way since their advent in 1996. Ceramic hair straighteners are better and smoother. You can also create soft curls with them- again, great for texture.
  • Round brush: round brushes add more volume to hair and are easier to control while blow-drying. Smaller brushes give you volume at the roots while bigger brushes are great for smoothing

A quick tip- go for more volume and texture than you would on a normal day. You’ll be wearing the style all day- exposed to the elements and moving about. As the day goes on your style will start to relax. To ensure your style lasts longer- go big!

Gorgeous Braids

You can never run out of ways to braid your hair. Braid your hair into a bun, or braid half of your hair by taking sections of them from each side and let the rest loose. Decorate your braids with flowers, cute clips, or pearls to turn heads in your wake. You can try braided hairstyles for weddings if you are a beginner, or an expert looking for inspiration!

Curl Away

Curls are a sure-fire way to win hearts. Use a curling iron, or run your straightener around a braid for instant curls. Spritz on hairspray for texture and grip. For beachy waves, dampen your hair and wrap it around a cloth overnight. Unwrap them, run your fingers through to untangle, and use a hairspray to make them stay and add shine. See? Easy breezy.

Make Sure Your Hair is Smooth

Don’t forget to shampoo and condition your hair a night before the occasion. Don’t shy away from using generous amounts of hair conditioner or conditioning oil if you have super curly hair, and tame frizzy hair with product if your hair is super dry and frizzy.

You deserve to shine and look absolutely fabulous on your wedding day. We all dream of wearing a perfect wedding gown and the perfect day. Just because an elopement is a more intimate gathering doesn’t mean you have to wear your everyday styles- you’re the ride after all.
