You can plan an outdoor wedding in many different settings. It can be a rustic wedding at a barn or a wooden cabin. Especially if you are planning a white winter wedding, there’s nothing like a dreamy countryside as a backdrop. It could also be a garden wedding or one on the beach.
Different settings need different decors, but one item is common to all outdoor weddings: wedding signs. Any wedding gets better organized with the appropriate signs, but they are imperative if it is an outdoor event. You don’t want your guests to feel disgruntled because they can’t find anything.
There’s enough scope to be innovative with your wedding signs. The good thing is that you don’t need to pay through your nose to an event management company for that. There are agencies that make customized signs for you.
In our work as wedding consultants, we’ve found iCustomLabel to be collaborative and innovative in their approach. The collaboration part is important since it is your wedding. Working with you on the signs is super important.
Wedding Welcome Sign
The first sign, of course, has to be the wedding welcome sign. Match the sign with your outdoor settings. If it’s a rural wedding, choose wooden logs for the welcome sign. If it’s a garden wedding, go for a floral sign. For a beach wedding, a frame with shells would be a great idea.
The other point to decide is the theme you want to project. Traditional, funny, clever – there are many possibilities. Work closely with your event planner or customized signmaker to ensure that you get just what you want.
One of the favorites that we suggest to clients for a funny cum clever wedding welcome sign is:
“The incredible couple So & So (names of the bride and the groom) is getting married today.
They’ll live happily ever after henceforth every day –
But the party starts here and now for all of us without delay!’
Other Wedding Signs
To make it comfortable and easy for your guests, organize signs for everything: the place of the wedding, the bar, the dance floor, the dinner space, washrooms, and the smoking corner. These are the basic minimum. You may have other ideas for your wedding, like a kids’ corner. Just make sure that it is easy to find.
One important point to remember is that signs at just one spot are not good enough. For an outdoor wedding, putting up signs at different places is important. Our suggestion would be that you put up signs at the entrance, and outside every other special corner.
Relevant signs must be there outside the wedding venue, the dining area, the dance floor, washrooms, and the smoking corner. Also outside other special areas if you plan to have them. You might need signposts at other points also.
If you have a particularly large, sprawling area entirely dedicated to your wedding, take a walking tour of it yourself. That will give you a perfect idea about which are the turns where people might get lost or walk the wrong way without a signpost to guide them.
Needless to say, it is important to customize your wedding signs to match the venue. We suggest you match it with the style and theme of your wedding welcome sign. If it is wooden logs, follow that pattern for all the signs and so on.
The same goes for the theme. If you have chosen traditional for the welcome sign, stay with that for the other signs also. If you’ve gone for clever or funny or a combination of both for the welcome sign, repeat that pattern for the rest.
One of the funny cum clever wedding signs we suggest to our clients about the smoking corner goes like this: “For fools with nicotine sticks hellbent on a slow death.” If you’re a committed anti tobacconist, this is a great way to express your disapproval without upsetting the smokers among your guests by eliminating a smoking corner altogether.
Similarly, the sign for the washrooms could be: “Way to unloading yourself before you refill again.” These are just suggestions, of course, to set your mind innovating. The important point to remember is that you maintain thematic consistency.
Make sure your event management company or your customized wedding sign maker works with you throughout. The signs should match with what you want to say and how you want to say it. Their job is to deliver what you want – not foist something they want on you.
Wedding Decor
A wedding is not just about signs. You have to plan the decor of an outdoor wedding also. As in the case of the signs, the decor must be in sync with the setting. If it’s a rural wedding venue, multi-seater wooden benches with ethnic rugs thrown over would go very well.
Use old-style wooden chairs if you want to be more considerate about the back of your guests. You can still use the rugs. More importantly, whether it is wooden benches or chairs – make sure you have cushions for sitting comfort.
If you’re planning a winter wedding at a sprawling countryside barn, arrange the sitting around bonfires. Your guests will love you for that. If it’s a summer wedding, arrange parasols for your guests – whatever be the venue.
Keeping ample chilled hydration options is a must for open-air summer weddings, and we don’t mean just alcohol. No even soda of some kind. Think of water and fresh fruit juice also. Menus printed in simple hand fans is a winner for an outdoor summer wedding. Your guests will wow your imagination.
